Week #6 -
8 February:
We will deal with the Revolutions of 1848 and begin to examine Germany and analyze why the National Ideal won out over the Liberal Ideal in 1848 and how Germany represented "Conservative Nation Building."
For the 10th read and be prepared to discuss Marx and the Communist Manifesto as we follow up from 1848.

Below is information that you need to print out and read for background. Make sure you have it read and you understand it as we move into the late 19th Century. We will not be covering this in class. These are to help you understand developments in Russia - how it moves towards Revolution.

10 February: We will discuss the Communist Manifesto in class today and how it fits into the 1848 Revolutions and Western European History, and in particular it has its roots in the Enlightenment and is a reaction to the worst excesses of the Industrial Revolution.
